As the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stepped off a plane in Calgary, Canada yesterday, Kate Middleton struggled to keep her pretty yellow dress under control in the high winds as she walked across the tarmac.
Wills and Kate are in the city to attend the Stampede parade, which some 250,000 locals flock to annually.
Kate’s wardrobe malfunction came a week after sister Pippa stunned Wimbledon in a knitted see-through dress that left little to the imagination.
The royals landed just after 4:30pm local time in a Canadian Forces Griffon helicopter.
They were greeted by Lieutenant Governor Donald Ethell, the local MLA and MP, and Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi.
Kate received flowers from six-year-old Diamond Marshall, who has stage four sarcoma cancer.
Little Diamond had submitted a hand-written request through the Make a Wish Foundation to meet a princess.
The shy girl had to be coaxed away from her mother by both the Prince and Kate, who gave her a warm hug.
Dozens of people waited at the airport to catch a glimpse of the couple.
“It’s a little quieter here,” said Robin Merrett, 45, an airline employee eager for a site of the couple during their visit, and a photo of them receiving white, Smithbilt cowboy hats.
“It (the hat) symbolises Western-ness out here, the cowboy symbolism of course, that we’re down-home and pretty easy going,” she said before the arrival, adding she thinks the Duke and Duchess share the same qualities.
“I think it’s a rejuvenation of the monarchy, for sure, and they’re just Will and Kate. It’s so down-home genuine.”
The visit is “really significant. It highlights the city internationally,” she added.
