Chord Overstreet Won’t Return to ‘Glee’ for Season 3

Following the news of his departure from the popular series, the depicter of Sam Evans tweets, 'It's been a good year. Too bad it's over.'Chord Overstreet won't be returning for the third season of "Glee". According to Deadline, the 22-year-old actor who plays Sam Evans on the FOX's hit series has not been picked up for the series' regular option. However, there's still a probability that he might appear as an occasional guest star on the new season.

Chord has been joining "Glee" since last fall, portraying a McKinley transfer student that joins the New Direction. Following his departure from the Emmy-winning series, he tweeted on Friday, July 1, "It's been a good year. Too bad it's over. Time for summer and starting fresh."

The report about Chord's departure emerged not more than two weeks after creator Ryan Murphy told Ryan Seacrest in an interview that some primary characters "would graduate by the end of next season." He said, "The show to me is about the way you express yourself as you start to move out into the world as a fresh, young person."

Later, Ryan clarified to TVLine, "Do we really want to have an eight-year [high school] senior?" He explained, "The only way somebody could stay on the show is if they flunk, and that is always a possibility. I think Brittany is pulling straight Fs."

Following news about Chord's exit from the show, Ryan Murphy confirmed that Darren Criss who plays Blaine Anderson and Harry Shum Jr. who plays Mike Chang have been officially upgraded to full-time series regulars. The two stars will start their roles effective within the beginning of the third season in this fall.
