Justin Bieber makes heartfelt video apology to fans… but what exactly has he done?

Justin Bieber has made a heartfelt apology to his fans in an online video posted following a pre-recorded appearance on The Ellen Show. It's unclear what exactly the chart-topping singer is saying sorry for - although it's thought to be related to how he comes across in his interview with the popular chat show host.

Justin, 20, was booked to star on Ellen DeGeneres talk show as a special birthday surprise for the US TV personality who turned 57 earlier this week. However following the recording he seemingly felt the need to say sorry to both Ellen and his army of Beliebers for his "arrogant" behaviour over the past couple of years.

In a clip posted online capitoned simply "here we go," Justin appears to be visibly emotional as he explains he has been through a difficult time lately and talks about "pretending to be something we're not as a cover up of what we're truly feeling," as well as how "growing up in this business is hard."

Some reports have suggested that during his recording with Ellen, Justin was particularly abrupt giving one word answers and seeming to be very nervous - strange for a young man who has been so heavily in the spotlight from a very early age and normally comes across as super sure of himself.

Just before he uploaded the video Justin also tweeted Ellen to apologise for his nerves as he wrote: " Good seeing u today @TheEllenShow. Happy birthday! Sorry I was so nervous," but she was quick to try and set his mind at rest by responding: "You were perfect. Thanks for surprising me! @justinbieber."

She also tweeted an image of herself and Justin on set and excitedly wrote: "I can't believe the surprise I got for my birthday show. Then I saw his face. Now I'm a Belieber."

This is the full transcript of the apology: “So, I just wanted to make a video because I wanted to express how I feel right now. Uh, so today, I was on Ellen and it was a lot of fun. She's amazing. It was her birthday. Happy Birthday, Ellen! But I was really nervous because I'm just, I was afraid of what people are thinking about me right now. It's been a minute since I've done a public appearance and I didn't want to come off arrogant or conceited or basically how I've been acting the past year, year and a half. And I was, I'm not who I was pretending to be.

"Why I say pretending is often, we pretend to be something we're not as a cover up of what we're truly feeling inside. And there were a lot of feelings going on in there. Um, just being young and growing up in this business is hard. Growing up in general is hard, but um, yeah, I just felt awkward up there. I felt people were judging me and I really want people to know how much I care, how much I care about people, and how I'm not that person to say ‘;I don't give a f***,' you know? I'm not that kid. I'm a person who genuinely cares and although what's happened in the past has happened, I just want to make the best impression on people and be kind and loving and gentle and soft and although people can call me a ‘;softy,' that's how my mom raised me.”

Fans have already flooded Justin with messages of support following the post with #WeDontJudgeYouJustin and #DearJustin trending on Twitter as they make sure he knows they have his back on this one. You have to feel for him, he seems really genuinely upset and worried in the video and it can't be easy to have literally grown up in the business having been famous since he was just 14 -years-old and scrutinised for doing things every other teenage boy does, just on a pop star's budget.
