Angelina Jolie Has Her Sights Set On Best Director Oscar Win For Unbroken

Angelina Jolie has admitted that she would love to see her latest film, which sees the actress work her magic behind the camera, sweep the board at next year's Oscars. The Hollywood starlet put it out there at the London premiere of the World War II epic: She wants an Oscar and she's not even shy about it.

The film, starring Skins star Jack O'Connell, follows Olympic athlete turned war hero Louis Zamperini who survived 47 days at sea after a plane crash before he was captured by the Japanese and imprisoned for two years. It's certainly a remarkable story and from what we can tell by the trailer it looks like a remarkable film. So can Ange add to her lonesome Oscar for Girl, Interrupted?

It would “mean a great deal to her,” she told Metro when asked about potential Oscar glory. The 39-year-old, who won her first and only Oscar for best supporting actress, has hinted that she may be putting her days in front of the screen behind her to focus more on directing. Surely a best director Oscar win would seal the deal?

She also says that she hopes more women will follow her lead and we'll see a surge in female directors. Hollywood is still dominated by male directors and the first female to win an Oscar for best director only just came in 2008 when Kathryn Bigelow made history with The Hurt Locker. “Hopefully, there will be many, many more, and I'm sure there will be,” she tells the paper. “There are a few other female directors I am close to and there is a nice camaraderie between us.”

We'll be able to see if Ange is Oscar-worthy when Unbroken opens in cinemas nationwide on Boxing Day. Watch the stunning trailer below...
