‘Glee’ Producer Sets Record Straight About Stars Leaving Show

Two weeks after “Glee” co-creator Ryan Murphy announced that three of its actors would not be back after the current season, looks like they’ve had a change of heart.

During the “Glee” panel on Saturday at the Comic-Con fan convention in San Diego, Calif., series co-creator and executive producer Brad Falchuk set the record straight, reports the Daily Mail.

“Here’s the exact thing, they’re seniors. They’re graduating. But that doesn’t mean they’re leaving the show,” he told the audience.

Earlier this month, Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter that show favorites Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith would not be back at the end of this season.

“You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticize you for not being realistic, or you can be really true to life and say when they started the show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year,” Murphy told the celebrity magazine.

Falchuk also revealed the producers of the popular Fox show had talked about a possible spin-off, which would feature the three graduates in New York trying to start careers on Broadway.

But he added that he was “leaning against doing it.”

But Michele, who has been working on launching a movie career, recently wrote on her Twitter page that news of her possible departure from the show is not surprising.

“We always knew we’d graduate in real time. It’s all part of the plan and it’s all good… It’s going to make Season 3 amazing.

“To Gleeks everywhere, you’re in my heart now and forever. Love you all!!! This is just the beginning!!”

But Colfer didn’t seem as happy when he was asked about Murphy’s announcement by Access Hollywood early July.

“I don’t necessarily want to leave so soon. But, I mean, it’s fine. It’s what it is. And all things come to an end.”

Whether some of the students of William McKinley High School will graduate or stick around for at least another year, they’ll be singing along in the concert film, “Glee Live! In 3D.”

The film, which will feature performances and backstage footage from the upcoming “Glee Live! In Concert!” tour, will be released in theaters on Aug. 12.
