Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber Among Early Winners at 2011 Billboard Music Awards

Snagging the first awards of the night, the 'Mean' singer wins 200 Album Artist of the Year, while the 'Baby' hitmaker successfully takes home Digital Artist of the Year trophy.Taylor Swift has grabbed one of the first trophies given away at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. The country singer won 200 Album Artist of the Year for "Speak Now" at the awards show held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 22. She beat other strong contenders, including Justin Bieber, Susan Boyle, Eminem and Lady Antebellum.
Presented with the win by "Glee" star Matthew Morrison, the 21-year-old thanked her record label and her family "for giving me the chance to make albums". Clutching her trophy on the podium, the "Mean" singer also thanked her fans, "The impact of the album is all determined by the fans, and you've just given me another reason to be completely in love with you. Thank you so much!"
Justin Bieber also took home a prize early on the event. He successfully landed the Digital Artist of the Year trophy. Donning a gold tuxedo jacket, the Canadian singer embraced girlfriend Selena Gomez upon learning about the win. On his acceptance speech, the "Baby" hitmaker said, "I want to thank anybody who helped me get out of my hometown and live out my dream!"
Also grabbing a prize was Taio Cruz who won the Hot 100 Song of the Year thanks to his hit single "Dynamite". Looking a bit nervous, the 28-year-old singer admitted that it was "the first time I've ever received an award." Meanwhile, Lady Antebellum scored the Country Song of the Year award for single "Need You Now."
The annual awards event was kicked-off with a surprised performance from Britney Spears and Rihanna as they as they collaborated on Riri's single "S&M". Donning sexy bustier paired with jeweled handcuffs, the two singers appeared with pole dancers while they were performing a pretty racy stage act.
The Sunday night's event was hosted by Ken Jeong. The star of "The Hangover" took over the stage following Rihanna and Britney's performance. As he got on the stage, he greeted the audience, "It's great to see you again in Vegas - this time, with my clothes on!" as referring to his hilarious nude scene on the blockbuster comedy.
Top musicians like Nicki Minaj, Cee-Lo Green, Far East Movement, Black Eyed Peas and Ke$ha were also among those entertaining the audience with their performances during the evening. Pop legend Neil Diamond is set to receive the Icon Award for his impact in the pop music culture.
