Rizzoli & Isles actress Angie Harmon and her NFL player husband Jason Sehorn have announced their separation after 13 years of marriage, explaining that they would like privacy for the sake of their three young children.
Angie, 42, and New York Giants star Jason, 43, started dating in 1997 and had been together for more than 15 years during which time they became parents to three daughters, Finley, 11, Avery, nine, and Emery, five. In a joint statement released to Us Weekly, the couple said: "For the sake of their children, they ask for respect and privacy as they navigate this time in their lives.” The news will come as a shock to those who remember the famous moment when Jason surprised Angie with a proposal during her appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno back in 1998, with the football player getting down on one knee to ask for her hand in marriage before they were serenaded by that night’s musical guest, Elton John, after she said yes.
Angie has previously spoken out about the difficulties of marriage, admitting to Your Tango: "Marriage is a lot of work, really. [I] don't get out Friday nights early enough to catch a flight home. So I'm here. We sometimes meet in Texas, a two-and-a-half hour flight for both of us. I miss my kids, so it's hard, but my children are so understanding.”

She also opened up to Good Housekeeping about the dynamics of their marriage in 2011, telling the publication: "He's like a steady tugboat, while I bring on the shock waves. As time goes on, [I love] the different discoveries you make about each other. You think you know that person inside and out, that you know every single inch of that person, and then you find something new. Communication is a huge, huge thing in marriage. And it doesn't matter if it's uncomfortable or brings up bad stuff. You really have to have the guts to talk to each other."
