Brian Williams: A Brain Tumor Made Me Lie About 2003 Iraq Incident

Back in 2003 Brian Williams lied about being in a helicopter crash in Iraq while covering the war, and now he has an interesting theory about what caused him to give the inaccurate account.

Vanity Fair just published a huge expose on Williams’ snafu, noting that he speculated that his judgment may have been impaired by a brain tumor. An insider told VF, "He couldn't say the words 'I lied.’ We could not force his mouth to form the words 'I lied.' He couldn't explain what had happened. [He said,] 'Did something happen to [my] head? Maybe I had a brain tumor, or something in my head?' He just didn't know. We just didn't know. We had no clear sense what had happened. We got the best [apology] we could get."

Previously Brian said, “I made a mistake in recalling the events of 12 years ago. I would not have chosen to make this mistake. I don’t know what screwed up in my mind that caused me to conflate one aircraft with another."
