The Lego Movie Director Has The Best Oscar Snub Reaction Of All Time

The lack of Jennifer Aniston in the Best Actress category at this year's Academy Awards has caused disappointment across the board but, surprisingly, it's not the nominations snub that has provoked the biggest backlash online. Nope, that honour goes to The Lego Movie; unexpectedly missed out of the Animated Feature field despite an overwhelmingly strong reaction from cinemagoers last year.

At time of writing, the movie has taken up THREE of Twitter's 10 top trending topics - 'Lego Movie' and 'Everything Is Awesome' (its lead song) riding high right now, while 'Not Lego Movie' shot to the top of the trends in the immediate aftermath of the news. What's nominated instead? Big Hero 6, The Boxtrolls, How To Train Your Dragon 2, Song Of The Sea and The Tale of Princess Kaguya. All with strong critical reactions upon their release, but none so wholeheartedly embraced as the little yellow toys.

But while fans are kicking off, co-director Phillip Lord is absolutely fine. Or, at least, he's taking it in great humour.

He also said, somewhat wisely: "This is not a tragedy. Congrats to incredible crew and cast of The Lego Movie, who made a classic." And hey, it's not all bad news - 'Everything Is Awesome', performed by Tegan & Sara with The Lonely Island, is up for Original Song; against ‘;Glory' from Selma, ‘;Grateful' from Beyond The Lights, ‘;I'm Not Gonna Miss You' from Glen Campbell… I'll Be Me and ‘;Lost Stars' from Begin Again.

Co-directed by Christopher Miller, The Lego Movie stars Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman and Alison Brie; and soared to a spectacular $468.8 million haul at the global box office. On Rotten Tomatoes, which aggregates all major professional reviews, it holds a 96% approval rating.

Maybe the live action sequences held it back...?
