That Was Fast! Rosie Perez Is Reportedly Leaving The View After Only Four Months

It's only been four months since Rosie Perez began her stint as cohost of The View, but the actress is already heading for the stage door. Variety broke the news today that Rosie, who is currently on hiatus from the show while performing in a Broadway play, has no plans to return to the daytime talk show once her gig is finished at the end of the month.

Rosie was one of two new cohosts added for The View's 18th season. She, along with Nicolle Wallace, joined Rosie O'Donnell and moderator Whoopi Goldberg after a long search to find the show's new leading ladies. Rosie and Nicole replaced Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd, who were let go from the show in June 2014.

“Perez was handpicked by the show's new executive producer Bill Wolff as a last-minute choice after the show underwent a reinvention this past summer after the retirement of Barbara Walters,” Variety wrote.

After securing the job, Rosie seemed excited about the new gig.

"Knowing that I'll be in the company of Whoopi, Rosie and Nicolle, three very smart and engaging women that I have an immense amount of respect for, makes it even more unbelievable,” Rosie said after it was announced that she was joining the show.

The foursome has been on the air since September, but the gig was a hard adjustment for Rosie, according to Variety.

“Perez never got a hang of the show's mixture of hard and soft news, and she had trouble reading from a Teleprompter,” insiders told the site.

Neither Rosie nor ABC, the network behind The View, has confirmed the reports that she is leaving the show. However, Rosie responded to a tweet from a fan on January 13 who asked her when she was coming back to The View.

“OK Rosie! It's time to come back. You've been away too long!!! Miss you!” the fan wrote, to which the actress responded, “Very sweet…soon.”

While Rosie is on hiatus, various guest hosts are being brought in to fill her seat, including Naya Rivera and Mario Cantone. Variety reports that the show's producers are trying to see how younger hosts work with the show's audience, and that more changes to show's cast and crew are coming soon.
