James Corden Reckons The Late Late Show Will Be A ‘Disaster’

Considering that he's relatively unknown in America, James Corden was an unusual choice to front The Late Late show. But just as we were beginning to warm to the idea, he revealed that he thinks his new job as host will be a “disaster.” Oh James!

The 36-year-old will replace current host Craig Ferguson in March, and has reportedly been paid at least £2million for his first year, whilst £700,000 has been put aside to help his wife and their two children relocate to Los Angeles. But whilst CBS may have shelled out some big bucks to secure the Gavin and Stacey star, he's not sure if it's all been worth it.

Asked about his new gig, he said there was a "three per cent chance of the show working - and that's decreasing as we talk!" He then added that he was worried his style of joke-telling wouldn't go down well in the US, saying, "I'll be thankful if I can bring any humour to the show if I'm honest."

James' face may be slightly more familiar with the Americans by the time he takes up the hosting gig, however, as he's currently starring in the Into The Woods, a Disney adaptation of the Broadway musical. But whilst acting is his passion, he's putting it on hold whilst he fronts the talk show. "It's definitely in my plan to carry on acting at some point, I've just got this little merry jaunt to go on which is bound to be a disaster and the show will be cancelled and then I'll have to go and get another job," he said.

But whilst the star doesn't seem too confident in his hosting abilities, there is one positive that's come from the new job – he's allowed to eat whatever he wants and not worry about his figure. In fact, execs over at CBS have banned the star from getting in shape as they want him to appeal to the mass American market.

An insider told the Daily Star, “One of the key things bosses thought was important is that James actually looks like a normal American which means he can appeal to the man on the street. He is not a glitzy-glam TV host and they feel his appeal will be looking like the man next door. His humour and clever writing will make him very likeable but his image is just as important.”
