It’s Official: Benedict Cumberbatch Is Going To Be A Daddy!

Good news Cumberb***hes, there's going to be even more of Benedict Cumberbatch to love, as the star is expecting his first child with fiance, Sophie Hunter.

A rep for the 38-year-old confirmed the news in a statement, adding “They are both over the moon.” And whilst the couple are clearly overjoyed by the news, there's one more person who'll definitely be jumping for joy – Benedict's mother.

Back in 2013, before the Sherlock star popped the question to his 36-year-old partner, his mother, Wanda Ventham pleaded with the Sunday Times magazine, “Can you just… find him a bird? You must be able to find him a bird. There must be someone in London who's suitable. I want grandchildren. Please – find my son a bird.” And back in November, after being told his fans were waiting for him to have a child he told People, "Oh my God. Well, my mother is also waiting for Cumberbabies."

Congratulations Benedict and Sophie! (WENN)

Luckily for Wanda, it didn't take long for her dream to become reality, with the news of a Cumberbaby coming shortly after Benedict and Sophie announced their engagement in The Times newspaper on 5 November last year. The couple are believed to have started dating in June, but their friendship dates back to 2009 when they appeared in the film Burlesque Fairytales.

And it looks like Sophie will be walking up the aisle with a baby bump as they are expected to marry this spring, earlier than expected. But the wedding planning will have to take a backseat whilst Benedict gears up for a jam-packed awards season. The Imitation Games star is a frontrunner for the best actor in a drama award at the Golden Globes, is also up for a Screen Actors Guild gong, and has been tipped for a Bafta nomination. So, as he wisely put it, when it comes to wedding prep it's best to deal with "one thing at a time!"
