Why Were These Shows Snubbed From The Golden Globes Nominations?

The Golden Globes 2015 nominations have caused a stir for some TV viewers who are disappointed that some of their favourite shows have been totally snubbed from the list, and rightfully so, as the likes of The Walking Dead, Modern Family and Parks & Recreation, are nowhere to be seen.

As the nominations were announced live in Los Angeles this morning by Paula Patton, Jeremy Piven and Kate Beckinsale, it became increasingly clear that some of the shows which have smashed ratings over the last year were completely missed off the list, most notably AMC's hit zombie fest The Walking Dead, which drew in 17.3 million viewers with its October premiere.

Much to the astonishment of fans, hit comedy Parks & Recreation was completely snubbed this year despite Amy Poehler winning Best Actress in a TV Series (Comedy) at the 2014 awards, and even more awkwardly, she's hosting the 2015 ceremony for the last time alongside Tina Fey. Zooey Deschanel, who was nominated in the same category as Amy this year, failed to receive a nod this time round for her leading role in New Girl, while Kerry Washington was snubbed for her critically-acclaimed role as Olivia Pope in Scandal.

In the comedy category, Modern Family, despite being one of TV's biggest ratings hitters, were absent from this year's nominations list, while Mad Men, which aired the first half of its final season earlier this year and Boardwalk Empire, which has just wrapped up its last ever season, were also left out in the cold. Other notable snubs include Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, and Masters of Sex.

The outrage from fans was abundantly clear, with Walking Dead fan @jackigarfinkel commenting: "Why the heck doesn't @WalkingDead_AMC get nominated for awards? #GoldenGlobes,” while @staywithlucy commented: "Parks and Rec and no one from it was nominated for a Golden Globe, why?!”

Sherlock supporter @winniekpx was furious, tweeting: "*CRY* Team Sherlock got no love at the Golden Globe. Our Emmy winner got snubbed in the category *CRY*,” while @ImHereForGlee commented: "Wow no Golden Globe nominations for Modern Family! First time in like 5 years. Also yay Matt and Mark are nominated for TNH!!" The 2015 Golden Globes will be taking place on January 11!
