Trashy Outfit? Lorde says she finds her best clothes in other people’s rubbish

She's known for her quirky style but it may come as a surprise to some where Lorde likes to find her best fashion bargains. The New Zealand born singer has admitted that she gets some of her favourite wardrobe staples from rifling through other people's rubbish. Yes, really.

Lorde, 18, spoke about her love of hunting for little gems in the trash during a new interview where she talks to The Telegraph about her life as a celebrity and why she prefers to do things her own way instead of following the lead of others in the business. Her trash-loving behaviour isn't a thing of the past now she's famous either - she confessed to hunting through a landfill as recently as three-weeks ago.

She said: “See, I'm boring because my favorite thing to do is trawl the inorganics. It stays on the street for a few days and then it's collected and put into a landfill somewhere. But people drive around and go through other people's household rubbish. And, honestly, I've gotten amazing furniture, shoes, hats, jackets. [...] I did this three weeks ago! Recognized every single time. So embarrassing!”

During the chat Lorde also discusses why it is she would rather not walk a red carpet as she didn't want negative comments to make her feel bad about herself at such a young age. She continued: “I'd just turned 16, and people were wanting me to do red carpets and I was, like, ‘;I'm still getting used to how I look and I'm still growing.' And I don't want to just feel sad because someone said, ‘;Ooh, she's on the worst-dressed list!' So I thought, ‘;I don't have to do this if I don't want to.' And it's been so amazing and so stress-free not doing it.”
