Sam Smith Lands Five Grammy Nods As Beyonce Becomes Most Nominated Female Artist

Iggy Azalea

The 2015 Grammy nominations have officially been announced, and British singer Sam Smith leads the way, landing nods in five categories including Record of the Year for single “Stay With Me (Darkchild Remix).

The soul singer also received nominations for Song Of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for his single “Stay With Me,” Best Pop Vocal Album for “In the Lonely Hour,” and Best New Artist.

Smith will compete for the latter award with Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, Bastille, Brandy Clark and Haim.

This year’s nominations were handled differently than in the past — a handful of nominations were announced on CBS’ “This Morning” on Friday, while the rest were posted by the Recording Academy throughout the day. The biggest award of them all, Album of the Year, will be revealed during “A Very GRAMMY Christmas,” which is set to air on Friday night on CBS.

Until the final category is announced, 22-year-old Smith is currently tied with the most nominations this year with Beyonce, who landed five nods herself, albeit in lesser categories. With her five nominations, Queen B becomes the the most nominated female performer in Grammy history with 51, moving ahead of Dolly Parton, with whom she was previously tied with at 46.

Beyonce landed nods for “Best Urban Album,” Best Surround Sound Album, and her hit “Drunk in Love” landed nods for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance. The singer’s On The Run tour with husband Jay-Z was nominated for “Best Music Film.”
