Katy Perry was certainly not the “dark horse” this year. The singer once again managed to have a highly successful in 2014, specifically on YouTube. It turns out that her video Dark Horse featuring Juicy J is the number one most watched music video on YouTube in 2014.
The Egyptian-themed video sits at about 716 million views with 2014 about to wrap up. Some people maybe be surprised by this number considering that highly watched videos like Nicki Minaj's Anaconda came out in the same year. However, Dark Horse was released all the way in February, which means that it had a lot of time to accumulate views in 2014.
The top 10 list has been compiled by YouTube, and features a few highly watched videos that may surprise some people.

Enrique Iglesias' Spanish version of Bailando came in second place with a total of about 588 million. This might serve as a reminder to some that YouTube is used by a lot of non-English speaking music lovers.
In third place is another spanish-speaking native. Shakira's collaboration with Rihanna in Can't Remember To forget You finished with about 443 million views. This probably shouldn't be a surprise as the video grabbed a lot of attention just for its lesbian insinuations alone, regardless of it the song was actually good or not.
It seems that a lot of people like to watch Shakira in general though, as her World Cup song La La La was next in line at fourth place. Below is the full list:
