Tom Hanks To Release Book Of Short Stories Inspired By His Typewriters

The Oscar Winner Published His First Short Story Last Year

He’s taken on the movies and triumphed and now Tom Hanks is turning his hand to literature to see if he’ll have the same success. The Oscar-winning actor will release his first collection of stories, inspired by his extensive collection of typewriters. Publisher Alfred A. Knopf will publish and release the book confirming the news in a statement yesterday.

The book remains untitled and we still have no details of a release date, but the company revealed that it will be “a collection of stories loosely connected to photographs of typewriters from Hanks' personal collection." Hanks has since explained the inspiration behind the typewriters, revealing: “I’ve been collecting typewriters for no particular reason since 1978 – both manual and portable machines dating from the thirties to the nineties,” the Forrest Gump star read in a statement. “The stories are not about the typewriters themselves, but rather, the stories are something that might have been written on one of them.”

Hanks’ first short story was published in the New Yorker last year. Following four teenagers who fly to the rocket n a moon, Alan Bean Plus Four didn’t exactly get the same praise that the movie legend is used to for his movies.

The 58-year-old has often talked about his love for typewriters. Last summer he released his first app, Hanx Writer, topping the iTunes app chart back in August. Let’s see if he follows suit, topping the best-sellers list with his very own collection of tales.
