Carey Mulligan Covers Harper’s Bazaar UK December 2014

She’s not your typical starlet, and Carey Mulligan shows off her unique look and point-of-view in her cover story for the December 2014 issue of Harper's Bazaar UK.

The “Suffragette” actress worked with photographer Alexi Lubomirski and stylist Miranda Almond, sporting apparel from designers like Michael Kors, Jennifer Behr, Valentino and Elie Saab Haute Couture.

Ms. Mulligan, who is married to Marcus Mumford, told writer Abi Morgan that though she’s done on-screen nudity, it’s not something of which she’s fond.

“I don’t think anyone relishes getting naked on set. In Shame it was the perfect introduction to her character; she was just one of those people who have no qualms about their body. In Suffragette it felt like the right thing to do. I didn’t want the lead actor to be protected from the same ordeal that the other people were going through in prison. So for work I’m fine with it. But in my own life... the last time I wore a bikini on the beach was three years ago on a private family holiday. On the red carpet I won’t wear anything above the knee, ever.”

Career-wise, Carey said she just sort of fell into her vocation. “Acting’s what I started doing when I was six years old and at a certain point you realize you can do it for a living. And from then on I was like, ‘Well, I’ll do that, then.’ I wanted to do musical theatre. That was the dream. I still go to musical theatre and just cry. I love it so much. Have you seen Frozen?”

And for the next few months, Mulligan is looking forward to some downtime. “I’m done now until Skylight goes to Broadway in March. Actually, I’m excited to go to New York, because I’ll go having had six months off. The run in London was challenging because it was such a short time after Suffragette. I went into it really exhausted.”
