The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 On Course For $130 Million Debut

Projected Debut Will Make It Biggest Movie Of The Year a The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 doesn't hit the big screen for a while yet, but it's already being projected to be the biggest movie of 2014 with a projected Box Office debut of at least $130 million for it's opening weekend. The movie will explode into cinemas on November 21 and after the last two movies, both achieved similar box office successes, the pressure is on for Jennifer Lawrence and co to deliver. According to projections it'll be at least $130 million, which will comfortably make it the biggest opening weekend of the year, a title currently held by Transformers: Age of Extinction which took $100 million in June. Lionsgate Entertainment haven't commented yet on the projected figure from pre-tracking, but they are similar to what was predicted for the first two movies at this point, with last year's Catching Fire going on to take $158 million in the opening weekend. It's worth noting that these are the projected numbers before the six week promotion for the movie begins, which will see the cast of Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson criss-cross the globe to promote the penultimate movie in the franchise. So it's likely, Mockingjay will also see a $150 million opening weekend, if not more.
