It’s been 24 hours since she passed away and the Medical Examiner’s Office can’t seem to figure out the “cause and manner of death” for the late Joan Rivers.

Per a TMZ report, the 81-year-old comedienne died just after 1pm after being in a medically-induced coma for several days. He was initially brought to Mt. Sinai Hospital after she stopped breathing during a throat surgery at a nearby clinic.

Joan’s daughter Melissa Rivers released a statement yesterday (September 4) to inform the public of her mother’s passing.

She wrote, "It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother."
