Neil Patrick Harris’ “Character” Yells at Fan During “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”

As with most gossip stories, an incident during Neil Patrick Harris' “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” caused quite the stir over the weekend.

According to reports, a fan yelled “I love you Neil” during the show and the “How I Met Your Mother” actor fired back at the fan and cursed him. Conflicting reports state that it was actually Neil’s character, Hedwig, that got involved in the altercation.

After the comment, Neil replied, “I’m doing something up here, mother**cker.”

“The response to the fan yelling was actually done in character — Neil as Hedwig, not as though Neil stopped the show to respond out of character,” a rep for the actor said. “When the fan initially yelled, ‘I love you, Neil!’ Neil (as Hedwig) then responded, ‘Who’s Neil? I’m not Neil.’ He then looked over at Yitzhak (played by Lena Hall) and said, ‘Are you Neil? You better not be Neil’ followed by Hedwig then offering the quote in question.”

“It was all done in good fun, and fully in context of the show,” his rep continued. “The audience went crazy and it really was a light-hearted moment, which is not being properly contextualized in any of these various posts.”
