Joseph Gordon-Levitt: The Tale of a Feminist

He's given us every reason to love him, and now actor/director Joseph Gordon-Levitt has come out with yet one more: his utter respect for women.

The "Dark Knight Rises" superstar spoke recently on "Ellen," detailing the influential roles women have played in his life, and that, even at a young age, his mother instilled in him the importance and value of women in society.

He told Ellen all about his feminist views, saying, "That was something that my mom would always point out to my brother and me, that our culture does often portray women especially...like objects."

The 32-year-old continued about his mother, telling her, "She wanted me and my brother to be aware of it because we see these images on TV, in the movies, and on magazines all the time. And if you don't stop and think about it, it just sort of seeps into your brain and that becomes the way you perceive reality."

When asked whether or not he would classify himself as a feminist, he said, "I do call myself a feminist. Absolutely!" It's worth paying attention to the roles that are sort of dictated to us and that we don't have to fit into those roles. We can be anybody we wanna be."
