She's been behind bars for tax evasion for three months, and now Lauryn Hill has her freedom today (October 4).

The 38-year-old singer is not only excited about her release from jail, she's also excited to go back to her work and release her new single called "Consumerism."

Miss Hill took to her Tumblr page to not only expressed gratitude to her fans for the support they gave but also to shared details about the single.

"I felt the need to discuss the underlying sociopolitical, cultural paradigm as I saw it," Lauryn explained. "I haven't be able to watch the news too much recently, so I'm not hip on everything going on."

The "Do Wop" songstress continued, "But inspiration of this sort is a kind of news in and of itself, and often times contains an urgency that precedes what happens."

"I couldn't imagine it not being relevant. Messages like these I imagine find their audience, or their audience finds them, like water seeking it's level," she added.
