Kim Kardashian isn’t about keeping things private. So I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised that Miss K allegedly wants her wedding to Kris Humphries to be televised. “It will be a two-hour stand alone special,” a source said, adding that Kim “is so used to having cameras follow her that she doesn’t even notice them any more. Kim really wants her fans to celebrate with her on the most important day of her life.”
Apparently, Nick Lachey feels the same way. He and Vanessa Minnillo have signed on to air their wedding on TLC in a special called “Nick & Vanessa’s Dream Wedding.”
Divorce rates these days are high, especially for celebrities. And the only way to make a bustup even more likely is to televise your nuptials. See what I mean below.
Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson. Didn’t Nick learn the first time around? His wedding to Jessica was shown in the first episode of MTV’s “Newlyweds,” But it didn’t keep the pair from months of tabloid speculation about assorted incidents of cheating before they finally divorced.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana. More than 750 million people tuned it to watch these two get hitched. We suppose they didn’t have any choice, but still, five years later, the marriage fell apart.
Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong-Jones. The first televised royal wedding was between Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong-Jones in 1960. They parted ways in the late ’70s. Now that I think of it, nearly every televised royal wedding has ended in divorce. Princess Anne and Mark Philips split as did Prince Andrew and Fergie. Let’s hope Price William and Kate Middleton deviate from the trend.
Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. “The Hills” stars had cameras capture their wedding twice—first, on a drunken whim in Mexico and later in an elaborate formal ceremony in California. Heidi filed for divorce last year, though later called it off. Still, reports say the couple is no longer together.
Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro. These two filmed their wedding for the MTV show “Til Death Do Us Part.” Only, they parted four years later, both of them very much still alive.
Now, there have been several televised weddings in the past few years. So maybe Kim & Kris and Nick & Vanessa—along with Khloe Kardashian & Lamar Odom, Prince William & Kate Middleton, Niecy Nash & Jay Thoman, and “Bachelor”/”Bachelorette” couples Trista & Ryan Sutter and Jason Mesnick & Molly Melaney—can break this trend.
