After the 'So What' hitmaker slammed her for allowing horses used in her music video to be painted pink, the 'Monte Carlo' beauty insists, through her representative, 'no animals were harmed'.Selena Gomez has reacted to Pink's criticism about horses being painted pink for her music video. Through her representative, the Disney darling released a statement, insisting that they made sure they used a safe material to paint the horse for the shooting of the "Love You Like a Love Song" clip.

"It was important to the Production Company, Record Label and Ms. Gomez that no animals were harmed and all proper precautions were taken," her rep told People Magazine. "A non toxic, vegetable based powder paint was applied via an airbrush and removed with water. An official from the Humane Society was on set supervising."

PETA, however, pointed out that despite the precautions, the horses were still in danger. Spokesman Dan Matthews told E! Online, "There are no safe ways to paint a live horse or any animal. They can have painful allergic reactions to chemicals and there's no way to know how an individual animal will react. Also, subjecting skittish animals like horses to extended periods of restraint and spraying is stressful and frightening."

On Thursday, May 19, Pink took to her Twitter to complain about the coloring of the horses for a music video without specifically mentioning Selena. "If there are any animal activists around Malibu- at Leo Cabrillo State Beach, there are horses being painted for a stupid music video. Shame," so she wrote at the time. In a following tweet, she added, "Artists should be more aware and responsible for their actions."

When Selena's fans started to fire back at her, Pink responded, "oh lord, THAT'S whose video it was? Disney fans unite. here we go. RT @PinkFans_ NEWS: @SelenaGomez fans are angry with @Pink." She continued, "whether u r a fan of mine or whomEVER'S, i won't stop speaking out about animal cruelty.i've taken responsibility in the past,so should."
