Ditching her blond hair to portray Katniss Everdeen, the 'Winter's Bone' actress sports her character's signature pin, Mockingjay, and clutches bows and arrows on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.First look at Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games" has been uncovered. The 20-year-old actress gets into the character on the cover for the May issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine, showing off darker locks and tanner skin. Clutching a bow and arrow, she is also seen sporting her character's signature pin, the Mockingjay.

In an interview with the mag, the actress playing Mystique in the upcoming "X-Men: First Class" recalled her first meeting with "Hunger" director Gary Ross. Noting that they met during last year's awards season, she said, "He was asking me what the experience was like."

"And I just kind of opened up and said, 'I feel like a rag doll. I have hair and makeup people coming to my house every day and putting me in new, uncomfortable, weird dresses and expensive shoes, and I just shut down and raise my arms up for them to get the dress on, and pout my lips when they need to put the lipstick on'."

The Louiseville-born actress, who got an Oscar nomination for her role in "Winter's Bone", added, "And we both started laughing because that's exactly what it's like for Katniss in the Capitol. She was a girl who's all of a sudden being introduced to fame. I know what that feels like to have all this flurry around you and feel like, 'Oh, no, I don't belong here'."

Jennifer further admitted that when she was first offered the role, she somehow found it a bit worrying. "I knew that as soon as I said yes, my life would change," she said. "And I walked around an entire day thinking 'It's not too late, I could still go back and do indies, I haven't said yes yet, it's not too late."

On why she finally decided to take on the role, "The Beaver" actress explained, "I love this story, and if I had said no, I would regret it every day." Her final decision actually amused author Suzanne Collins, who told her, "I feel like when you said yes, the world got lifted off my shoulders."
