Sony Hackers Threaten 9/11-Style Attacks On Movie Theaters Showing ‘The Interview’

The Interview
The hacking group calling themselves Guardians of Peace have issued a new warning over the upcoming James Franco/Seth Rogen film “The Interview,” threatening that “the world will be full of fear” if Sony Pictures releases the film as scheduled on Christmas Day.

The group promised a “Christmas gift” over the weekend and have now revealed that the “gift” will invoke terror on the scale of September 11, 2001.

The Guardians of Peace have warned moviegoers to stay clear of theaters showing the film and those who live near theaters should leave their homes if they want to be safe.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is investigating the threat, but doesn’t believe it is credible.

“We will clearly show [the Christmas gift] to you at the very time and places ‘The Interview’ be shown, including the premiere,” the message, sent to Sony Pictures CEO Michael Lynton Tuesday morning read; “how bitter fate those who seek fun in terror should be doomed to.”

The hacker group is believe to be working for North Korea, which is appalled at the film’s subject, which is about two journalists who are tasked by the CIA to kill North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un after they’re granted an interview with the head of state.

Franco and Rogen have canceled all appearances in relation to the film for safety’s sake, however both are believed to be attending the film’s New York City premiere on Thursday night (Dec. 18).

“The world will be full of fear. Remember the 11th of September 2001,” the message also said. “Whatever comes in the coming days is called by the greed of Sony Pictures Entertainment. All the world will denounce the SONY.”

“The FBI is aware of recent threats and continues to work collaboratively with our partners to investigate the Sony attack,” a spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Investigation told the Los Angeles Times.

So far, none of the theaters scheduled to begin running the film on Dec. 25 have backed out.
