How Harry Styles Beat One Direction At Twitter

Harry Styles is officially the most popular Brit in the world. In fact he's even more popular than One Direction, bizarrely, in a new chart published of the most popular Twitter accounts in the UK. Harry's taken over the world with his 1D band mates but it turns out that he may go on to bigger and better things, dare we say it, without them.

Harry's 22.8 million followers has put him way ahead of the actual One Direction Twitter account, which currently boast 21.5 million tweeters and over 4 million followers more than the second most popular UK band member Liam Payne, One Direction's unofficial spokesperson on Twitter with 18.6 million. Louis trails behind with 18 million while Zayn Malik, who is notoriously absent from the site, still managed to attract 13.5 million supporters. Irish Niall is obviously the only member not to make into the UK chart, but as the fourth most followed person in the world he would have come in as the second most popular One Direction star with 20.6 million followers.

But Harry not only trumps One Direction with his impressive contact list, but he also the master of retweets. The 20-year-old's July 23 post celebrating the group's anniversary, which read: “4 years. Thank you to everyone who is involved in this. I feel so lucky to be part of it. Everyone who has worked with us thank you..” was retweeted 360,000 times and favourited 420,000 times. The tweet was named the 9th most popular of the year worldwideand in fact, looking through his account, there are barely any tweets which don't break at least 100,000 retweets, no matter what they are.

So with this in mind, we hate to say it Directioners, but does Harry really need One Direction at all? With rumours rife that the Little Things chart-toppers have plans to call it a day following their upcoming fourth and potentially final world tour, if these figures tell us anything, Harry Styles has one heck of a solo career ahead.

With talks of Hollywood calling, his symbol as a fashion icon – just pop into your nearest Topman to see what we mean – and a voice which, as we all know makes anyone with a pulse go weak at the knees, it's safe to say that Harry can sit very comfortably with the thought of post One Direction life. Sorry guys!

But for now, One Direction assure us that they've still got more world domination in them yet. Their sales maybe flailing, ever so slightly, but the X Factor giants remain the biggest band in the world and by a long shot. They just became the first group to have their first four debut albums debut at number one on the Billboard Top 200 and won their third in the UK with their latest album Four. Their On The Road Again world tour sold out in a matter of minutes, again, and they were named the biggest selling artist in the world back in August.

So it's safe to say that bidding goodbye on One Direction right now would be about as barmy as Harry Styles' silly shirt collection.
