Beyonce And Kelly Rowland Mourn The Death Of Kelly’s Mother Doris

Tuesday was a dark day for the ladies of Destiny's Child. Kelly Rowland, along with Beyonce Knowles and Michelle Williams, are mourning the loss of Kelly's mother, Doris Rowland Garrett, who died yesterday at the age of 66. Kelly, who recently became a mother herself, issued a statement to the media regarding the death of her beloved mother.

"It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my mother, Doris Rowland Garrison," Kelly's statement read. "She was an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices so that I could become the woman — and now mother — I am today. We humbly appreciate all the love and support and only ask for privacy during this difficult time."

Kelly, who did not reveal the cause of her mother's death in the statement, is not the only one devastated by the death of Doris. Beyonce is also mourning the loss. Although she has not spoken out about Doris' death, she posted a telling photo of a stormy sky on Wednesday, with no caption. The third Destiny's Child member, Michelle Williams, tweeted a message that seemed to be in relation to Doris' death.

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. Psalm 30:5,” Michelle wrote on Wednesday.

Doris raised Kelly and her older brother, Orlando, on her own, after she broke things off Kelly's father, Christopher Lovett. In 2011 and 2013 Christopher publicly tried to reconcile with Kelly, who he has not seen since she was seven years old.

“So many previous years have passed and I'm getting old,” he told Star magazine in 2013. “I just pray she comes back into my life before it's too late. I hoped I could make it up to her. But I'm still waiting for that day.”

Doris worked as a nanny while Kelly was growing up. Since she often lived with her employers, Doris allowed Kelly to move into the home of Beyonce's family when Kelly was nine years old. In 2008, Kelly wrote a touching letter to her mother in Essence magazine.

Beyonce posted this photo to her Instagram, an obvious nod to her feelings after finding out about Doris' death. (Instagram)

“Momma…You'd look at me like I was the sun and the moon and say, ‘;Sing up, baby...a little louder.' It meant so much that you believed in me,” Kelly wrote. “When we had rough times in Houston, you did your best to balance our family with your job as a live-in nanny. And I know it was difficult for you to run me back and forth for rehearsals after I joined Destiny's Child. I spent a lot of nights at the Knowles' house. Soon a month turned into a year, then years. You came by every day, though, and cooked dinner, and we'd all eat as a family. It was because of your strength and sacrifice that I was able to dream so big.”

Luckily, Doris was able to meet Kelly's son, Titan Jewell, before she died. The baby boy was born less than a month before Doris' death.
