It's not been a great week for Angelina Jolie, not only was she slammed as a "minimally talented spoiled brat" in leaked Sony executives emails her latest directorial offering, Unbroken failed to pick-up one nod from the Golden Globes 2015 nominations announced today (Dec.11). Husband Brad Pitt was also snubbed for his World War II tank movie Fury.
Yesterday at the Screen Actors Guild award nominations it was a similar story, with Unbroken, picking up one lone nomination in the 'Stunt Ensemble' category. The Globes were an even worse story and despite the pre-award season buzz the movie, based on the extraordinary survivor story of Olympian and World War II POW Louis Zamperini, failed to score any nominations in the acting or technical categories. So much for the so called Jolie-Pitt battle, they'll be lucky to scratch even on award between them.
The double snub does not spell good news for Angelina's hope of scoring her first Oscar nomination as a director. She had previously admitted a nomination would be very "important," to her, but with the film not making any of the categories, it's not lookingly likely is it? But then the academy is a very different kettle of fish to the Hollywood Foreign Press Assocation. There was uproar in 2013 when Ben Affleck failed to secure an Oscars directing nomination for Argo, despite winning the category at every other major award show. So could they do the opposite and acknowledge Jolie?

The omission of both Pitt and Angelina is a bold choice for the GG, baring in mind the attention the couple bring, we doubt they'll sit through a ceremony clapping and laughing in all the right places if they feel their movie offerings were unfairly considered. On the other end of the scale, Brad's BFF George Clooney is set to recieve the Cecil B. DeMille Award on the night. Perhaps he can convince the couple to come along? Or, after they skipped his September wedding to wife Amal, maybe he's not bothered about the 'golden' couple being there on the night.
One person who will probably be happy to know it won't be the Brangelina show during this year's awards season is Jennifer Aniston. The actress has been nominated for her role in Cake for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama.
