In the latest ridiculous One Direction story news, Zayn Malik's stomach bug has now turned into a substance abuse problem. Why? Because those pesky lot at the rumour mill have very little else to do. The band have been forced to shut down reports that Malik is currently taking time out from the band to get sober assuring that he really is curled up in bed watching Game of Thrones, or whatever Zayn's into, like the rest of us on a sick day.
Zayn was too unwell to join his band mates for their appearance on The Today Show, which sent Twitter into frenzy, as usual, when the group arrived one man down. Ironically, promoting their new album Four – which we're not going to take as a sign of things to come – the chart-toppers smashed it, performing tracks from their new album and we're sure that Zayn was gutted not to have been there.
“He's got a tummy bug, so he's not very well at the moment,” Liam Payne explained. “So he couldn't make it over, but we only found out this morning. We're really sad, and he is as well, that he can't be hear for our album release.”
But host Matt Lauer just didn't seem to be buying any of it. “There have been rumors of substance abuse,” he pointed out. Don't hold back or anything Matt!

Thankfully Payne assured us all that those rumours were nothing more than salacious gossip, telling Matt: “No, he's just got a stomach bug. He's OK, he's just at home — he's got to rest. We're just waiting for a phone call from him!” So there we have it. The Paynester has spoken and Zayn has got a stomach bug NOT a substance abuse problem. Okay?
But it's a pretty crucial week for the band who release their fourth studio album Four worldwide this week. Obviously the LP has shot straight to the top of iTunes charts across the world and is almost guaranteed to give the boys their third UK number one album and fourth in the States. Their previous album Midnight Memories became the biggest selling album in the world in 2013 despite only being released five weeks before the year's end.
Let's just hope Zayn feels well enough to regroup to celebrate this weekend. Get well soon Zayn!
