Fans of Sherlock have gone wild for the new shots taken for a forthcoming Sherlock Christmas special, but not out of excitement but more sheer bewilderment. The shot sees stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman pose in period costume with Benedict right arm towards camera while the other one, wait, where is the other one? The image, which was posted online is missing Benedict's left arm, but where did it go?
We are praying to the high heavens that this is just a Photoshop nightmare and not a clue that for some reason Sherlock's arm really has been dismembered. We're going to take a stab in the dark and say we're guessing Sherlock's arm is still in tact, but who really knows?
There's still no explanation as to why our dream team are dressed in period costume, nor has any one revealed what's happened to Sherlock's arm. But what we do know is that Sherlock will be returning for a 2015 Christmas special, whch will then be followed by three more feature length episodes in 2016.

Of course, Twitter went berserk over Benedict's amputated arm as fans loaded th site with their quips and gags, and we're sure they'll just keep on coming as the mystery to Sherlock's missing arm wades on.

Producer Sue Vertue teased the show's return with the bizarre image of Sherlock and Dr. Watson, accompanying the picture with a caption which read: #221back #Sherlock #notkidding”. She then also posted an image of the top secret Sherlock special script, written by husband Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, and revealed that there had been a read through earlier that day.

The Sherlock special will air next Christmas and is expected to begin filming in January. Since the third series ended earlier this year, fans have been left waiting on tenterhooks as it was revealed that the scariest villain of them all, Moriaty lives! DUH DUH DUH! Due to Cumberbatch and Freeman's jam packed schedules, we're going to be left waiting for another year before all is revealed. But they're back, whether it's with one arm or two, they're back.
