Robin Williams’ Son Zak Talks About Life Without His Dad: ‘We’re Acclimating To The New Normal’

It's been just over three months since Robin Williams' death, and now his son Zak is speaking out about what he hopes will become his father's legacy. The actor, who took his own life on August 11, was best remembered for roles in comedies such as Mrs. Doubtfire, as well as his desire to help others, the latter of which Zak says he hopes to continue on with.

"Dad had almost a childlike love, and he shared that love with people, with everyone," Zak told Us Weekly at the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation fundraising gala on Thursday. "That ability to love, and that ability to be generous and giving and kind is something we would want to share with future generations."

Robin, who was good friends with the late Christopher Reeve, bonded over their desire to help others.

"The amazing thing about their relationship was their incredible drive to take the time to love, to help, and to appreciate others, even while they found themselves in great pain,” Zak said of his father and Christopher. “They always found time to give their all to those in need. Bringing light and healing where there's darkness, pain, or suffering is absolutely vital."

Zak also discussed how he and his half-siblings—25-year-old Zelda and 22-year-old Cody—are doing dealing with their father's death.

“We're doing okay," Zak told Us Weekly. "We're acclimating to the new normal. Everything is step by step.”

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the same event, 31-year-old Zak said that helping others has helped him and his family heal.

"A large part of what we're doing through this grieving process is giving and spending time focusing on others,” he said.

Zak's half-sister Zelda has been very outspoken on her Twitter account since her father's death in August. On November 7, she expressed her feelings about the press making her dad's autopsy results public.

“A big, emphatic middle finger to the 'press' today,” she wrote.

Earlier this month it was revealed that Robin's three children would inherit the late actor's $50 million fortune. His widow, Susan Schneider, is also believed to have received a chunk of the Robin's estate.
