Jill Scott Responds to Nude Selfie Leak

A number of celebrities had their cell phones/personal accounts hacked and nude photos leaked last week amid allegations that a massive celebrity photo hack scheme is in the works.

Among the leaked “personal” photos of Kate Upton, Jennifer Lawrence and Lea Michele were leaked images purportedly showing R&B singer/actress Jill Scott (almost) in her birthday suit.

In one image, a woman that resembles Scott wears nothing but a silk robe and is holding a cell phone in her hand as if she’s taking the picture in the mirror. The other image shows a woman with a similar body type and what appears to be the same phone, but you can’t see her face.

Jill has since responded to the scandal on Twitter, however, she’s only claiming ownership of one of the photos: the one of the woman in a robe.

This was her initial response, right after the leak happened:

And after sifting through responses to her response, she shared this:

Meanwhile, TMZ is reporting that the FBI believes that “phishing” might be the reason for the big leak.

Law enforcement officials say that Apple was used as bait in the scheme, with the hackers allegedly pretending to represent the company in order to trick the victims into releasing their private information, like passwords and credit card info.

We’re told in this case … the email sent to the celebs might have been doctored up to look like it was coming from Apple. Phishing’s been going on since the early days of the Internet, but scammers are so sophisticated now … their emails look identical to the real deal.

J-Law and Kate’s pics — some with her BF pitcher Justin Verlander — were among the first ones released Sunday by the hacker.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has said his company would work to improve security on their platforms.

From The Washington Post:

To make future breaches less likely, Apple will start sending e-mail alerts and push notifications to users any time an account password is changed, iCloud data is restored to a new device or a device logs into an account for the first time.

Previously users were not notified when data was restored to iCloud, where users can back up photos, music and other data. The new measures will allow users to take immediate action to protect their account by changing their password or contacting Apple.

Cook also said that Apple would do more to encourage users to turn on two-factor authentication, which in addition to a username and password, requires a special code in order to access an account, a feature designed to protect users when their usernames and passwords are stolen.
