Box Office: “The Hobbit” Expects a Return Journey to the Top2

Fending off two worthy opponents, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is once again on track to capture the top spot at the box office for the weekend of December 28-30, 2012.

The tale of Bilbo Baggins raked in $10 million on Friday, with an expected weekend take of $32.5 million for its third week in theaters.

Landing in the second spot with Friday earnings of $9.3 million is the Leonardo DiCaprio fronted "Django Unchained." Directed by Quentin Tarantino, the action thriller is looking forward to a $28.7 million weekend.

Rounding out the box office in estimated weekend earnings are the musical "Les Miserables" ($28.4 milllion) in third, followed by the family comedy "Parental Guidance" ($14.5 million) in fourth and the Tom Cruise fronted film "Jack Reacher" ($13.2 million) in fifth.
