Elizabeth Taylor’s Legendary Jewels Go Up for Auction


Elizabeth Taylor dazzled the world not just with her stunning looks or as an iconic actress. She also enthralled scores of people with her legendary collection of jewels from the loves of her life.

Married eight times to seven husbands, (she married Richard Burton twice), the late Hollywood actress accumulated one of the most bedazzling jewelry collections in the world. Christie’s in New York will host the auction of Taylor’s entire collection of roughly 300 pieces, estimated at $30 million, Dec. 13-14.

Taylor’s 2002 revealing memoir titled “My Love Affair With Jewelry” chronicled her baubles and how she come to own each piece.

Featured at the auction will be one of the most perfect symmetrically pear shaped pearls in the world. The 16th century La Peregrina was a 1969 Valentine’s Day gift from Burton, who snapped it to at an auction for $37,000, beating out bidders from the Spanish royal family.

In addition to her valuable jewelry collection, at her death Taylor left an estate estimated at between $600 million and $1 billion.

A portion of the proceeds from the auction’s admissions sales and publications related to he exhibit will be donated to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation. Proceeds from the auction will go to the film star’s estate.
