TLC Cancels ‘Kate Plus 8’

The current season of Kate Plus 8, which premiered last week, will be its last.

“TLC has decided not to renew another season of Kate Plus 8,” the network said in a statement. “By the end of this season Kate Plus 8 will have hit the 150 episode mark (including Jon & Kate Plus 8); an exceptional milestone. TLC hopes to check in with Kate and the family periodically with specials in the future.”

Kate, 36, who also appeared on Dancing With the Stars in 2010, addressed the end of her series on Twitter Monday.

“TLC canceled it. I’m sorry,” she told her followers. “We’ve had a great run! Six years of whirlwind fun-filled adventures. Thanks to TLC and our many, many supportive and diehard fans! While it is very sad for me and the kids (there were many tears at the breakfast table this morning!), we are we are looking forward with great anticipation to our bright future!”

Audiences were first introduced to Kate, husband Jon, and their eight children in 2007 with the special Surviving Sextuplets and Twins. Jon and Kate welcomed twins Cara and Madelyn in 2000. After using fertility treatments to get pregnant, the couple welcomed six more children in 2004: Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel.

The special was so popular with viewers that the network decided to give the family their own show. Jon & Kate Plus 8 premiered in 2008.

The reality series became even more popular once Jon became the subject of cheating rumors and the couple went through a very public divorce in 2009.

Kate and her children continued with the reality series, Kate Plus 8. The series finale will air Sept. 12 on TLC.
