Selena Gomez Had Controlling Boyfriend Before Dating Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez opened up about her bitter love story with a boyfriend whom she dated before Justin Bieber. The "Wizards of Waverly Place" star felt like she lost herself when she was with him, unlike when she's dating the Biebs.
"I wasn't myself for a year. I think that was really damaging," the 19-year-old starlet told Top of the Pops magazine. "I felt like it was me who was always trying to be perfect for him. Everyone around me hated him but I didn't listen."
The star who is currently touring with her band The Scene added, "I always dressed nice. I don't think he ever saw me in sweatpants, and I love sweatpants." She also recalled, "I'd always be well-mannered and go to his favorite restaurant or whatever."
Without naming the boy, the "Monte Carlo" actress additionally revealed, "There was a point where I lost myself completely. I didn't smile as much, I didn't laugh as much. I wasn't a goofball. I didn't get up and dance like I usually do."
Selena admitted that when they finally split, she felt free again. "And when that one ended, I didn't know where I was," the "Who Says" hitmaker went on sharing. "But I got it back and was really happy. My family were happy to have me back."
Before she's dating the "Baby" hitmaker, the Texas-born starlet was known for dating several teen idols. Back in 2009, she was linked romantically to Taylor Lautner. She once also had an on-and-off relationship with the younger Jonas Brothers, Nick Jonas.
The 'Who Says' singer admits that she once dated a guy who made her feel like she wasn't herself, explaining, 'I felt like it was me who was always trying to be perfect for him.'
