The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are finally home and most likely bound for some R&R after a whirlwind trip through Canada and California over the past 12 days. The couple flew back across the pond commercial-style yesterday, with hundreds of fellow Brits on a British Airways flight, reports the Daily Mail.
The flight was somewhat emblematic of their last day in the States, which they spent around inner-city Los Angeles, meeting students at an arts academy for impoverished youths. The couple also visited with jobless veterans through the group ServiceNation.
Their trip wasn’t all work, however. The couple attended a charity polo match at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club, where Prince William scored four goals, helping his team win the overall match. Catherine presented the trophy to the victors, and a quick kiss on the cheek to her prince. The chance to see the royals caused a bit of a stir, however. The crowd rushed the presentation podium and one photographer was pushed over a barrier by an eager spectator.
The couple could not leave L.A. without some celebrity mingling and red carpets, of course. On Saturday night, Will and Kate were guests of honor at the BAFTA “Brits to Watch” event at the Belasco Theatre. There they mixed with celebs including Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez and Barbara Streisand.
Kate impressed in a flowing, lilac gown by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, and according to Celebritology bloggers, was one of the best dressed of the night. Jennifer Lopez and Blake Lively fell on the other side of the spectrum, however.
Prince William and Catherine also met actresses Reese Witherspoon and Catherine Keener at a reception thrown by the animal conservation charity Tusk Trust.
